Nar Phu Trek

Annapurna Region
Narphu- Snow Leopard Trek
20days trek to remote area
altitude 5105m. 17 000ft

I had heard of a remote area off the Annapurna circuit trek that had Snow Leopards and was a completely different terrain from the main trail. I again organized my trek with a new contact in Kathmandu; Sherpa Shangri-La Treks through shangrilatreks@hons.com.np What impressed me was his quick response to my e-mails enabling me to sort out the trek in  a short time. Narphu is a restricted area but I found a way of getting into it by getting a climbing permit for Chulu East north side
                                                                   David Ketley - UK

The trek takes us into the heart of Narphu, a high, remote region on the Tibetan border east of Mustang and the Damodar Himal. The landscape is wild and largely uninhabited, except for a string of flat roofed Tibetan-style villages along the valley. Here, one can find some of the oldest Buddhist and Bon-Po temples in the Himalayas.

In these remote mountains eight pairs of Snow Leopards have been recorded by Nepalese conservationists. En route to visiting ancient temples and "magic" caves, the group can explore further into this unknown region in the hope of catching a gimps of these rare creatures.
